VERY FIRST DAY OF MY 2ND SEM

First of all, we received two photocopies from Mr. Najib, one of it relate to the schedule, the rest one is our opening sem assignment. "IDEAS" is all what we're going deal with it for the coming weekdays and submit it up on next monday.

WHAT IS SKETCHING? Mr WanB listed out 3 kind of its definition:
1) use as document to be documenting
2) giving instruction to the rest
3) an expression from our ideas somehow haven't exist yet

Well, i think, sketching is an object which we transform after interpreting the stimuli through any organ.

I'd better stop here, will be continue for my assignment part...

CONFERENCE & XZBIT

Finally, says me, the Conference Day for RUS 101 came by. Tuan Syed Mohd Bakar bin Syed Mohd Salim who is the curator of USM traditional toys &games museum was the guest of honour launched the opening of Conference & XZBIT 2010.

SUNDAY- CONSTRUCTION DAY

We all start our construction work today at 9am until 6pm. Consequently, with everyone effort, we finally make a four layer half dome.

This is the first layer, we all help out in holding the struts so that the second layer can be accessible.

Yusof break the hammer since he tend to use the hammer as a leverage tool to adjust the screw.

Two guys climb up the man made bamboo ladder to exchange the broken and under standard strut, others hold the ladder and lend their hands beside.

WE ARE READY FOR THE FOURTH LAYER OF THE DOME.


The sky seems enlighten, the figure of dome make the sky not tedious anymore. Staring through dome spaces, like think out of the box.
At last, our sacrifice do really bring up the satisfactory. Whatever u do, it will carry away something which is energy and time, but it also bring us something memorable and unforgettable memory.

CONSTRUCTION WORKS

My tengrity product finished done, but i m using steel wire that make it very flexible and not tense enough. In my point of view, tensegrity is the combination of words tension and integrity. The integrated between strings and rod should be tense enough to display a strength structure. And the structure is depends on how we want to display it out.



We all gotta make the scafold on the yesterday evening, using the wet ropes, we finally make one facade of scafold. Though, Mr WanB point out our mistakes, like use own weight to tie the rope, the rope must be neatly and using minimum area. Well, today which is Friday, right we are doing the construction work hoping that everything will be finish done on next monday conference.

SAFETY FIRST & BOTTOM CLASS

Monday morning, we had 2 lectures. First lecture is about road safety. From the statistics accordingly, we knew that there are 52% female involved in accident a bit higher than male which is 48% though 62% male use highway frequently than female. Ok, the number do say something even the lecturer dont speak it out loud but he really make it clear. Is female careless than male? I guess not really... Is female's destiny so unlucky? Who care the hell that reason, we analysis data and information. Well, the reasons can be uncountable, maybe is driving skill, danger alertness, i suppose... Mr wan B said before, if an airplane crash, u yourself and your baby, who will u rescue first? He said, save yourself first... Well, keep ourselves alive is the most important thing, or else we die, everything come to the end. We can reduce the case of accidents being happen by sending the information of reckless drivers' proof to the JPJ.
Next, we have Dr Puad giving lecture about BOTTOM BILLION. This world basically divide into 3 groups people, The Top, Middle and the Bottom, Ratio is 1:5:1. The rich people keep on getting themselves richer, and the poor people remain themselves struggling in the absolute poverty. Well, hereby i m thinking of the movie "BLOOD DIAMOND", it show the discrimination onto the poor country, even though they possess the valuable resources but the rich men take control everything, and the poor one can do nothing but working as a mining slaves (not sure the word mining correct o not). The world can never be balance, like what King Arthur had said he pursue equality, there is why the exist of round table if the hierarchy concept still instill in everyone's mindset. Confucius said, education can change one's destiny and status, thus i think supply the poor people with food and drink is not as good as build a school for them, buy them books and teach them well.

EXHIBIT DYMAXION

Dymaxion is a globe like stuff where we stick our project pictures on it, a totally different exhibition from what the past taught us. When Tuan Haji said about the montage and Picasso sentences, i started imagine the picture i like to have on my dymaxion.
The colour part is a pair of hands, the separated tiles part seems like a bird like struggling to fly up. Hereby, i m thinking of the pigeon is made of glasses, but it has so many crack lines on its body, thus a pair of hands stand by to hold it if it fail to fly and fall to the ground.

The bamboo pictures in the middle i want to show it as a feather figure but seem it is a bit distorted.

There are some project i have done in black and white, thus i m thinking of making some pigeon images, well, at least the black part of the pictures do not make the image worse or bad. Right, talking of pigeon, pigeon represents peace. Peace nowadays is retain by love or law, i m doubt. There is why one of pigeon made by glasses, FRAGILE, NEED PROTECTION.

SURVIVAL- FRIDAY TALK

Survive wilderness is a kind of survival under certain situation such as we lost in the jungle, we need to survive from becoming wild animals' meal or find out the right track before anyone could come rescue us. Civilization survival, it can be seen among human beings. We regard ourselves civilize enough, we need money and job to retain this civilization so that we dont have to live in the jungle, eating raw meat and so on. We compete among ourselves to not be beaten by others, to be success, to be on top of the mountain.
What if we are well prepared to survive, well, we should be alert and always prepare. Animals survive themselves from the tsunami but alas human just resign themselves to the GOD. I suppose this is kinda instinct of wild, they face death always every second, there it really helps to sharpen their sensitivity.
Then, we have a talk related with al-quran. It is a way of learning how to be a good manner person. Memorize and keep it within the deep heart, no matter others want to tear it, dump it or burn it out.

BAMBOO DOME

Basically, this is the 6v image of the dome, 250 struts required.


Having the bamboo dome construction on Monday evening, this dome might be 8m high. Well, if i m using the mathematics here, i ll get at least 16m long diameter whereby multiply the radius or height of dome with two.
The circumference of the dome with 8m radius = 2 x 22/7 x 8 = 50.xxx
Well, at least Mr. Wan B got one point correct, this is a huge project, whereby we need everyone's commitment, the bamboo all joint together, they are supporting each others. There i suppose, we got a bond between each others since we all relying on everyone.

ABSTRACT

I formed a group of 5 and started our discussion after the class.
SOUL SHIFT was our abstract topic. TIME FOR TALK ALONE IS DYING, WE NEED TO UNITE, SHARE, SERVE AND SEE CHANGE is our subtopic, basically what my group members and i understand about the statement respectively is unity. UNITY is all what we need to be strong enough, to gain the ability to survive in 2012, to make life much mere better and less miserable exist.
Having the intention to be unite with others is merely not enough, we need to take action. For example, we share ideas, information, knowledge and etc, we do the work all by ourselves, the product is what we got ever after the use of 6 elements in this case.
In my point of view, usually we will get the feedback from what ever we had done previously, and the process is iterative and repeating, we just need to keep doing it, rethink about it and strengthen our product.

BIG big jump

Today 4 October, we were having BIG talk, it is regarding of the bamboo research on we make use of bamboo as our fundamental material in the future. Well, Mr. Wan B emphasized a lot about how unique the bamboo is, and how people nowadays rely on it. Mahram give her speech on how she undergoes changes after so many project being done.
In the question and answer section, the first question was the problems facing during we are make use of the bamboo, the answers are we face the danger when we cut the bamboo, maybe we accidentally meet the cobra or being sting by bee, and as information, the mature bamboo is encircled by young bamboo, thus dragging it out from the cluster is a big task.
Any bamboo plantation in Malaysia?
Malaysia imported Indonesia bamboo, hope that it will grow up in the Malaysia land.
How does this project fixed into APEX program?
We are now in the process making a about 8m height dome, we are going to contribute to the 2012. Holland got their floating houses, and Malaysia still seems unconscious of the coming of 2012. Hereby, it shows that Malaysians is lack of sensitive to the nature, and here, we make a change by making a BIG dome, making prediction or assumption.
If the are others disaster such as earthquake, tornado others than flood in 2012, what have to do next as our dome is prepare for the flood disaster?
From here, we are making kinda assumption. After a study of 2012, people decide to focus on one point which is land will be cover under water. In my opinion, i guess no psycho tell us what will happen in 2012, thus we just can do our best in saving mankind in the flood disaster.
Mr. Wan B said we can work on the bamboo to become a source of energy. In my point of view, nothing impossible, maybe bamboo can replace of charcoal one day.
What is the lifespan of a bamboo?
I think it is important because if we going to use bamboo to construct building, it is necessary for us to understand that in order to predict the lifespan of the building. Well, the answer is we need research, some bamboo really can last for hundreds or thousands years, for instance: istana bamboo.
How can bamboo be use in the medicine field?
Bamboo can cure "gila babi".

PAST, FUTURE,MONUMENT

LOOKING BACK, well Mr. WanB said it is reviewing back our first day in the HBP. Hmmm, thinking of the very first day, I think of the first assignment in the studio whereby we need to blog “WHAT I HEARD”. And then, Dr. Ilias reminded us about the “KNOWING THE SELF”. Well then, I would to take the experience of myself as the example. In my SPM level, I supposed I prefer BIOLOGY than PHYSICS, thus I chose life science as my choice in Matriculation program. Though, I found myself do not do better in BIOLOGY then, without second thought, I tend to shift my course to PHYSICAL SCIENCE. Well, I think I made a right choice after all since my result is achieving my goal. Yet, today, here I am, already in the school of HBP for half a semester. Knowing myself good, I guess I am; better, I need to rethink; excellence, I am confused… I admit that me myself is a jack of all trade, but I suppose I haven’t knowing myself excellently, but time might mend everything, maybe one day my potential will be reveal under the veil. Time here I mean of experience.

LOOKING FORWARD in the future. If past time is make of history, then future is going built by dreams. Due to the above statement, I think it is fundamental thing we make our preparation before the coming of 21^st September 2012. What the hell use for those great dreams if the dreamers all are being buried under the deep water. Along the studio lessons, we learn a lot about the survival. According to video “AWAKENING AS ONE”, it said “is the love or fear held us together?” I found that it is far far difficult to answer it, but one thing can be sure is we all have different answer within our deep heart. In my opinion, sometimes it just like a cycle, an era destroyed and then a new era happen to be. In others word, it is called “REBORN” of the earth after the uncountable destructions. If the prophecy of Mayan finally come true, then I guess it is declaring the end of human era.

Human have the power to change the sad ending into happiness ending. As we already start our reconstruction of environment, reduce the rate of pollution prolong the earth from being supreme destruction, or else we might luckily find a planet to replace earth, and we all shall move there and abandon earth behind.

In my point of view, monument sometimes show the past glory of human community besides for commemorate purpose such as Taj Mahal, India, Eiffel Tower, Washington Monument, and etc.

I went to Jewish Cemetery in Penang. According to the guard of cemetery, there are more than 150 tombs. Some of the ancient tombstone craved on the Jewish words but some craved along English words.

Well, I found that there are a lot of the hexagram symbol which represents the “STAR OF DAVID” or “JEWISH STAR”. The use of Jewish star is unknown; some said it is for decorative.

The symbol as if the Menorah shows three stems on each side plus the central stem, totaling seven which is the symbol of Israel to be “a light unto the nation”. Likewise the Shield of David came to be understood as seven, with two triangles of three points each united around a central point.

The symbol shows by a pair of hand, I think it is similar to the Menorah figure, as one hand shows 3 stem, and the interception point between 2 wrists is the seventh stem, or the central point.

My own monument I adopt the idea of “Taiji”. Taiji is understood to be the highest conceivable principle, that from which existence flows. This is very similar to the Daoist idea "reversal is the movement of the Dao". The "supreme ultimate" creates yang and yin: movement generates yang; when its activity reaches its limit, it becomes tranquil. Through tranquility the supreme ultimate generates yin. When tranquility has reached its limit, there is a return to movement. Movement and tranquility, in alternation, become each the source of the other. The distinction between the yin and yang is determined and the two forms (that is, the yin and yang) stand revealed. By the transformations of the yang and the union of the yin, the 5 elements (Qi) of water, fire, wood, metal and earth are produced. These 5 Qi become diffused, which creates harmony. Once there is harmony the 4 seasons can occur. Yin and yang produced all things, and these in their turn produce and reproduce, this makes these processes never ending. In my understanding of Taiji, Taiji is make up together by the yang(the bright part) and yin(the dark part), it teach me about the balance between the yin and yang to create a harmony circumstance. In short, Taiji means everything in the world, for instance: day is yang, then night is yin.

Two square-like structure in the middle represents the community distortion or humanity distortion. Yet still they are mingling together means no matter what happen the man made environment and natural environment depends on each others.

From the sketches, there are two fish’s structures or structure shaped by liquid such as water connect to the rings in the middle. Yin and Yang represents everything, fish’s structure indicates creature and the nature, their existence is to balance up each other, no one shall conquer another or eliminate the other part. Back then, harmony and peaceful can be exist with the presence of equality. Well, hereby I would like to emphasize about the way of being sustainable, aesthetic propose not so important in my design because my main idea is to show the world the core and fundamental concept of Taiji.

The bamboo arrange with a lot triangle shape in order to gain extra stability. This monument also act as a passage pathway or a building. Without the cover outside, it really provide 100 percent of ventilation, but insulation layer or coat can be added in order to protect from sunlight and rainwater. Entire structure use bamboo and steel connectors, concrete can be use as the foundation.
